The Traffic Section is a unit of the Field Services Division of the Elk Grove Village Police Department. The main functions of the Traffic Section are enforcement, education, and engineering. It supports the patrol operations and is responsible for addressing traffic and parking related problems and complaints, investigation of abandoned and inoperative vehicles, investigating hit and run motor vehicle crashes and investigating serious injury, fatal, and complex traffic crashes. The Traffic Section also conducts surveys and studies to provide the basis for recommending improvements in regulatory signage. These recommendations are in an effort to improve both motor vehicle and pedestrian safety.
The Traffic Section conducts selective enforcement activities and provides a police presence and traffic control for many events throughout the Village. This includes the Elk Grove High School Homecoming Parade, the Elk Grove Hometown Parade, Rotary Fest, the 4th of July Fireworks Display, the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, and the Tour of Elk Grove International Bicycle Race.
The Public Service Officer is responsible for the handling of abandoned auto and inoperative vehicle complaints received along with many other administrative duties.
The Licensing Officer is also assigned to the Traffic Section. She is responsible for the inspections of over 4200 business operations, contractors, vending machines and taxicabs. The inspections ensure compliance with the village’s licensing ordinances.
