On Saturday, October 24, 2020 the Elk Grove Village Police Department is coordinating with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and law enforcement agencies across the nation to participate in the 19th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative. This initiative provides the public an opportunity to surrender and remove from their homes potentially dangerous prescription drugs.
Participants can turn in their expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Elk Grove Village Police Department (901 Wellington Ave) from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Needles, sharps or liquids will not be accepted. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
DEA, along with its law enforcement partners, has now collected nearly 6,350 tons of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs since the inception of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative in 2010. This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issues. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rate of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
If you have any questions about the Take-Back Day, please contact the Police Department at (847) 357-4100.
