Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 Citizen's Police Academy!

The Elk Grove Village Police Department conducts an eight-week Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) for residents interested in learning more about the Police Department and its operations.

The 2024 CPA will run every Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm from October 2, 2024, through November 20, 2024 at the Elk Grove Village Police Department (901 Wellington Ave.) Upon completion of the academy, all participants receive a certificate of graduation. 

Topics covered include: Tour of the station, K9 Unit, Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Juvenile Law, Traffic Laws/Crash Investigations, Crime Scene and Evidence Collection, Tour of Police/Fire Dispatch Center, Use of Force/Interactive Firearms Training Simulator, and opportunity for citizen ride-along.

The CPA is open to anyone who lives or works in Elk Grove Village and is over the age of 18. Space is limited and participants are accepted on a first come first serve basis! All individuals wishing to participate must complete an application which will be available at the Police Department front desk or online. Please download the application HERE. This program provides an opportunity for students to learn about law enforcement and develop a partnership with the police department. Through this one-week academy, students will acquire knowledge through both classroom instruction and an interactive curriculum surrounding the law enforcement profession. The academy is not a boot camp or a program for rebellious teens or youth who have behavioral issues. It provides area youth with a unique learning opportunity with their local police officers. On Thursday, there will be a graduation ceremony where students will be presented with their Academy Certificate.

The Elk Grove Village Fire Department regularly conducts Citizen’s Fire Academies for residents interested in learning more about the Fire Department and its operations.  The six-week program will take place on Wednesdays between 6 PM and 9 PM starting August 21, 2024 through September 25, 2024 at Fire Station #8, 700 Fargo Avenue.

Topics covered include: Orientation, Emergency Medical Services/CPR, Engine operations, Special teams, Truck Operations, and Final Scenario. Participants tour the training tower, learn basic first aid skills, and use specialized tools and equipment to better understand the types of conditions encountered by firefighters. All students are fitted with a set of protective clothing to use during the course of the academy.

The program culminates with an evening of hands-on simulations. All participants must complete an application form and will need to provide a release of liability prior to the start of class. The Elk Grove Village Public Works Department holds their Citizen's Public Works Academy for residents interested in learning more about the Public Works Department and its operations. This five-week academy takes place on one weekday evening per week from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the James Paul Petri Public Works Facility located at 450 E. Devon Ave.

Participants will learn about public works operations, tour various facilities, and get to see the heavy duty vehicles and equipment that crews use on a daily basis. Topics covered include an Introduction to Public Works, Engineering, General Operations, Fleet and Building Services, and Water, Storm, and Sanitary Utilities.
