What are the curfew hours and who does it apply to?

On May 11, 2004 the Village Board adopted changes to the Village's existing Curfew law. Changes were required so that the Village could comply with recent Federal Court decisions and also be in compliance with surrounding communities.

Per the amended ordinance: It shall be unlawful for any person under 17 years of age to be upon any public way, public place, street, establishment or roadway during the following times:

Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturday;
Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday; and
Between 11:01 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday inclusive and 6:00 a.m. on the following day.

Before issuing a citation or making an arrest, a police officer shall ask the apparent offender's age and reason that offender is in a public place, establishment or other prohibited location. No citation or arrest will be issued unless the officer reasonably believes that an offense has occurred.

Any person violating this provision shall be subject to a fine no less than $25 nor more than $500 for each offense.

Why does the Village prohibit overnight parking?

Parking is prohibited on all Village streets between the hours of 2:00 am and 5:00 am. This overnight parking restriction is common among suburban municipalities for the following reasons:

Prevents the storage/abandonment of vehicles on public streets
Assists the Police Department in overnight street patrols
Allows for safe and effective snow plowing and street cleaning

What is the Village's Noise Ordinance?

The best way for the Police Department to handle any noise issues that require a response is to dial 9-1-1 while it is happening. Elk Grove Village Police Officers can respond and take the appropriate action.

VILLAGE'S NOISE ORDINANCE:

A. Regulations: In the I-1 and I-2 industrial districts, the standards and regulations with respect to sound emission, impulsive sound, prominent discrete tones and other noise related activity shall be as set forth in title 35, subtitle H, noise, chapter I, pollution control board, (1984 edition) as amended from time to time, of the rules and regulations of the state of Illinois, which rules and regulations are hereby adopted by reference.

B. Exceptions: The following activity shall be exempted from the rules and regulations herein established:

Sound emitted from emergency warning devices and excess pressure safety relief valves.
Sound emitted from lawn care maintenance equipment used during daytime hours.
Sound emitted from vehicles, snowblowers and similar equipment used for snow removal and hauling operations.
Sound emitted from equipment being used for construction between the hours of seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. to seven o'clock (7:00) P.M., of each day, or for such additional hours, provided such activity has been authorized by the village.
Sound emitted from trucks and vehicles entering or leaving industrial zoned property provided that this exception shall not apply to idling engines, off the road vehicles, mixers on ready mix concrete trucks, and trailer mounted refrigeration units located on any such property.

Can you walk your dog without a leash in Elk Grove Village?

Animals must be leash controlled by the owner to use or be upon any public street, sidewalk, parkway or public area within the village. The leash must not be longer than eight feet (8') in length.

Additional regulations for Elk Grove Park District Property/Parks:

All domesticated animals in a park must be leash controlled on a leash not to exceed fifteen feet (15') in length.
