The Village of Elk Grove, in conjunction with SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County), collects used sharps (needles/syringes) for environmentally safe disposal. Sharps are accepted at the Fire Administration Office located in the lower level of the Village Hall Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30 pm. Items must be in an approved container and must be accepted by a staff member. Any items deemed unsafe will be refused.

Residents are encouraged to bring their unused or unwanted medications (pill form only) to the Police Department Lobby. The lobby drop box is available 24 hours a day.

The Elk Grove Village Fire Department is also the first department in Illinois to provide emergency medical information bracelets to its residents. MyID is a rubber bracelet with a QR code that can be scanned by medical personnel to reveal a patient’s medical history and contact information. The information is entered by the patient into a secure online database and can be easily updated. Residents can call Fire Administration to receive a bracelet and instructions.
