Every business engaged in retail sales of any product is required to be licensed per the Elk Grove Municipal Code. Additionally, certain other businesses including day care centers, food caterers and retail establishments require a license. All food, beverage and cigarette vending machines as well as coin-operated amusement/musical devices must also display a valid license. The annual fee for a business license covers the cost of making inspections necessary to safeguard public safety, health and welfare. Business licenses are valid for a period of one-year and are due annually no later than June 1.

Pre-printed renewal forms are mailed in mid-April to businesses registered during the previous year.

Electronic business license applications are available here.

Please note that a business may require more than one type of business license. A complete list of business types, codes and fees is available through the Business License Fee Schedule. Companies are responsible for obtaining all necessary licenses. For more information, or to determine if your business requires a license(s), please contact the Finance Department at (847) 357-4062 or visit the Finance Counter in the Municipal Building.
