Water / Sewer Rates

Elk Grove Village provides water and sewer services for residents and businesses within the community. The Village purchases Lake Michigan water through the North Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency (JAWA). JAWA currently contracts with the City of Chicago for water.

In November 2011, the City of Chicago launched an unprecedented increase in water rates. While Elk Grove absorbed as much of Chicago’s rate increase for as long as possible, the Village was compelled in 2012 to pass along some of Chicago’s rate increase to residents as most other municipalities have done already.

In an effort to properly account for all water consumed by customers in Elk Grove Village, the Village installs water meters in all homes, businesses, schools, and government buildings within the Village. Water consumption is billed monthly. Billing for all water consumption indirectly results in conservation as residents and businesses are only charged for what they consume.

The revenue from water and sewer fees is used to pay for the cost of the water purchased from JAWA as well as the maintenance and repair of the Village’s water and sewer system.

Stormwater Management Fee

The Village adopted a stormwater management fee to help support drainage improvements in the Village, such as sidewalk drainage improvements and to mitigate the effects of flooding situations. The fee is based on the size of your water meter. Most homes will experience a $5.00 monthly charge. This is effective for bills due October 20, 2021 and forward.
