Elk Grove Village, IL, has a population of 32,000 with a median household income of $85,240. Elk Grove Village Lateral Police Officer Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) and meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements at the time of application to be considered for the position:
(Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.)
- U.S. citizenship and/or legal permanent resident of the United States and must speak English;
- Must be at least 21 years old;
- State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completed 60 semester college credit hours from an accredited college or university -OR- must have served 24 months of active duty or 180 days of combat duty as designated by the Department of Defense in the United States Armed Forces and have not been discharged under circumstances other than honorable. No felony convictions and must be of good moral character; (Note: A misdemeanor or felony conviction does not constitute an automatic bar from employment. The nature of the offense, the date of the offense, the surrounding circumstance, and the relevance of the offense to the position applied for may, however, be considered in assessing qualifications for employment. Applicants may be requested to provide additional information regarding criminal convictions to assist the Village in evaluating qualifications for employment in the position sought). The applicant understands that the Village is not requesting, nor should the applicant disclose expunged juvenile records of adjudication or arrest;
- Possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
- Possess 20/40 corrected vision.
- May not have any face, neck, or hand tattoos that cannot be covered.
- Must pass an oral interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commission and follow-up testing.
- Must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements and perform the essential job functions.
- Ability to furnish, upon request, a copy of the following: professional licenses; training certificates; documents confirming work experience; employee evaluations; and any other employment-related material as requested or required.

Starting Salary: $90,659.62 - $99,078.20
Top Pay: $119,004.56

Officers have lateral and promotional opportunities in Field and Support Services Divisions within the areas of crash reconstructionist, canine team, investigations, technology, forensics, community relations, youth investigations, SWAT, Field Force operations, and assignments to undercover taskforce positions. Lateral Entry Eligibility List
Lateral hire applicants who have met all hiring prerequisites and successfully completed the required portions of the process will be placed upon the final eligibility register for lateral entry in order of their relative excellence, based upon their scores. Additions will be made to the list as new applications are received, and candidates are interviewed. New eligible candidates will be placed in rank order, dependent on their scores. An individual who has been on the final register of eligibles for lateral entry for more than two (2) years and has not been certified for hire shall be removed from the list.
