The Village is sending one $200 Visa gift card to every household in the Village. The cards are addressed to the current resident of the property.

Gift cards are expected to arrive between the dates of Thursday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

The gift cards will be in a plain white envelope listing “Elk Grove Village” as the return address. Please carefully review your mail to ensure you do not throw it out by mistake.

The gift card will be attached to paper with the Elk Grove Village logo and a note from the Mayor & Board in the top right corner. The gift card itself will have the “Shop Elk Grove” logo on the card.

Over the past four years, our community and our country have faced numerous challenges. Despite the obstacles, the Village has continued to maintain a strong financial position thanks to our vibrant and diverse technology, manufacturing, and industrial base.

The essential revenue streams from our Business Park have allowed the Village to not only deliver key services and reinvest into the future of our community, but also offer additional support to residents. Over the past few years this support has included two separate $200 water bill credits and a $200 gift card. We have been heartened by the positive feedback from residents who found these gestures helpful during challenging times.

The aim of the Village Board is to continue supporting our residents when possible and is sending this gift card as a contribution to assist with back-to-school costs and other household expenses.

The Village is providing a gift card to the current resident of each household in the Village as a way to provide relief to Village residents. If you do not live in the Village, you do not qualify for a gift card.

No. Cards are being delivered to current residents. If you do not currently live in the Village, because you are in the process of buying a home, or your home is under construction, you do not qualify for a gift card.

If you have not received your gift card by Wednesday, August 21, please contact PerfectGift customer service using one of the following methods:

• Email support@perfectgift.com with your name, address, and phone number, and state that you have not received the prepaid card for the Elk Grove Village assistance program;

• Call Perfect Gift at 1-877-448-4438 and tell them you have not received the prepaid card for the Elk Grove Village assistance program.  

PerfectGift will verify whether a gift card was sent to your home address, and can reissue a new card if the original card has been lost in the mail.

If Perfect Gift informs you that your address was not on the mailing list, please call the Village at 847-357-4275.

If Perfect Gift informs you that your card has already been activated and/or used, please check with all members of your household to see if they received the gift card before calling 847-357-4100 to file a theft report with the Elk Grove Village Police Department. 

PerfectGift has the issuing information for all cards and can reissue the card directly if it has been lost in the mail.  They can also see if a card has been activated and suspend a card if it has been stolen.  The Village does not have access to card information, and PerfectGift needs to speak directly to the cardholder, which is the current resident of your household.

Residents are encouraged to use their gift cards for essential items such as groceries, gas, and other necessities. Where possible, residents are also encouraged to use the funds at local businesses.

Visa gift cards cannot be used for:

• Money transfers
• Venmo, CashApp, PayPal, etc.
• ATM access
• Purchase of gift cards
• Subscriptions/Automatic bill pays
• Online purchases that exceed the available balance on your card

Instead of swiping your card at the pump, go inside the gas station and give your card to the attendant and state the amount of gas you want to purchase. 

In many cases, gas stations authorize a “precharge” at the pump when a card is swiped and the precharge may be more than the funds available on a gift card, resulting in the giftcard being declined at the pump. 

When you use the card for a service that typically includes tips, such as a restaurant, salon, or food delivery service, an additional charge is often automatically added to your total to ensure sufficient funds are available on your card to pay for the purchase plus tip. If you’re using a credit card or debit card, the difference between the pre-authorized charge and your actual amount with tip would be returned to your balance within four business days. With a Visa gift card, however, if the total pre-authorized charge (actual cost plus additional pre-authorized charge for tip included by the merchant) is larger than the amount on your prepaid card, it will result in the card being declined.  

When you got to a gas station and pay at the pump, there is a similar issue.  Because the gas station does not know in advance how much gas you will buy, the “precharge” a certain amount to allow you to pump what you need.  If your card is declined at a gas station, you can resolve this issue by going inside to pay and telling them how much gas you want to purchase.

There are restrictions on how the gift card can be used—please see question 12 above for details.

Yes, the gift card can be used to pay for Village services.

If you have a small remaining balance and are having difficulty using the last of your funds, here are a few ways you can use the last few dollars on the gift card:

Ask Cashier to use more than one form of payment: Before handing over the gift card, tell the cashier you would like to use more than one form of payment for my purchase. You can say something like, “I have a Visa gift card with a couple of dollars left on it that I would like to use first. Then I’ll pay the balance with another card. Is that ok?” This gives the cashier a heads-up in case the system has issues with “split-tender transactions.” 

Use the remaining balance towards your Village payment: When paying for a bill using the online portal, first enter in the amount left on your gift card and then use another form of payment for the remaining payment balance. When paying for services at Village Hall, please advise the customer service staff of the amount you have remaining on your gift card to use it first.  

No, cash back options are not available with this gift card.

The Village is partnering with Perfect Gift to provide all households in the Village with one $200 Visa prepaid card.

To start, your card will have a balance of $200. To check your balance, please visit www.perfectgift.com/check-balance or call 877-448-4438. The 16-digit card number and 3-digit CCV code will be required to check the card balance.

Your card is valid for use until the funds have been exhausted or until its expiration date in August 2025, which is printed on the front of your card.

If you still have available funds on your card after the card has expired, or the card has been lost, you may request a new card with your remaining balance by calling Perfect Gift customer service at 1-800-543-7927. Perfect Gift will reissue the card with a service fee of $5.
