The Village has been made aware that residents within Elk Grove Village occasionally receive solicitations for the purchase of insurance for their residential water service line. The insurance companies advertising these services are seeking customers by direct mail are not associated with the Village.

The water service line is the line that runs from the Village’s watermain to the residence. Any issues pertaining to this line are the sole responsibility of the homeowner or business. However, it is extremely rare for a residential water service line to break.

While the Village does not have a position on this matter, residents are always urged to use caution when receiving blind solicitation letters. Those considering this type of coverage should carefully research the insurance provider, the coverage that is offered, any exclusions to coverage, and the cost. It may also be helpful to contact your homeowners’ insurance agent to review what coverage you may already have or may be able to obtain.
