Project Description

The project includes the proposed resurfacing of Devon Avenue from approximately 750 feet west of the intersection of Illinois Route 83 (Busse Road) to approximately 800 feet east of the intersection. Illinois Route 83 (Busse Road) will only be resurfaced at the intersection. The project will include spot sidewalk and curb and gutter removal and replacement within the project limits and new sidewalk from the southeast corner of the intersection to approximately 650' east of the intersection. The project includes ADA ramp improvements at all pedestrian crossings, new pedestrian push buttons with Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), and removal of a Pace bus shelter. The scope also includes pavement markings, signage, traffic control, and landscape restoration of affected areas.

Project Updates

September 22, 2023: This week, the remaining section of surface course was placed in the Devon & Busse intersection and turn lanes. Final restoration took place as well.  Next week, final pavement marking will be installed.

September 8, 2023: This week, the surface course began being placed in the Devon & Busse intersection. The new sidewalk along the south east leg of the intersection was prepared and poured. Accessible pedestrian signals were also installed at the crosswalks.  Next week, restoration will begin for the project.

September 1, 2023: This week, the binder course was placed during night-time operations. After the binder was placed, detector loops were installed in the pavement and final structure adjustments were made in the roadway. The final surface course was placed on the east and west legs of Devon Avenue. Next week, the surface course will be paved through the intersection at night. New sidewalk will also be placed at the south east leg of the Busse & Devon intersection. 

August 25, 2023: This week, the contractor performed the pavement milling of the intersection during the overnight hours. The binder course of the pavement will also be performed during night-time operations following the milling.

August 4, 2023: This week, the contractor began removal of the concrete curb and sidewalk on Devon Avenue. Next week, removals will be completed and pouring of new curb, sidewalk, and road patches are anticipated to begin.

July 28, 2023: Preparatory work began this week on the project as the contractor installed inlet filters and other erosion control devices on the project.  Next week, the contractor is scheduled to begin the removal and replacement of the concrete curb and sidewalk.
