Project Description

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be making intersection improvements at Higgins Rd. and Oakton St., Higgins Rd. and Busse Rd., and further east at Higgins Rd. and Oakton St. The scope of this IDOT project includes restriping and minor widening to provide dual left turn lanes on all four legs of the Higgins Rd. and Busse Rd. intersection, new signage and pavement markings to enhance continuity along Higgins Rd., traffic signal replacement, pedestrian and bicyclists accommodations, and drainage improvements. 

Construction Updates

12/08/21: Tommorrow starting at 7:00 a.m., the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be putting into place multiple lane closures on Higgins Rd./Oakton St. just west of Busse Rd. The roadway is anticipated to be reopened by the end of the day. On Friday, an additional lane closure will take place on Higgins Rd. just south of Oakton St. and the roadway expected to be reopened by Friday late afternoon.

10/22/21: Next week, Alliance Contractors will begin milling the Higgins Rd., Busse Rd., and Oakton St. Intersection daily after 6:00 PM. Crews are anticipated to begin surface placement beginning the week of November 8^th. Please avoid the area if possible as delays are expected. 

07/16/21: Storm sewer work along the north side of Higgins/Oakton began this week on IDOT’s project.  The contractor will be installing a large diameter storm sewer which will require lane reductions along Higgins/Oakton and Busse for the next couple of weeks.  This is anticipated to impact traffic significantly, so please be aware that backups should be expected. This project is expected to be completed by November.
