Project Description

The Village’s aging watermain will be replaced along Lunt Ave. from Busse Rd. to Elmhurst Rd. The project will include the replacement of the watermain, water valves, fire hydrants and water service valves.

Project Updates

December 1, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction continued tying in the services to the new main at the west end of Lunt near Busse Road. Concrete repairs also continued along the Lunt Avenue corridor. Next week, all connections to the new main will be finalized and the old water main will be abandoned. The roadway will be patched with asphalt above the water main trench as well.

November 22, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction continued tying in the services to the new main, west of Nicholas Boulevard. Concrete repairs also continued at the Lunt Avenue and Nicholas Boulevard intersection and along the east leg of Lunt. Next week, the connection to the existing water main on Busse Road will occur as well as tying in to the existing system at Nicholas Boulevard. All services should be tied into the new system next week as well.

November 17, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction continued tying in the services to the new main, east of Nicholas Boulevard. Concrete repairs also began at the Lunt Avenue and Nicholas Boulevard intersection. Next week, water services west of Nicholas Boulevard will be connected to the new main and concrete replacement will continue along the east leg of Lunt Avenue.

November 10, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction completed the installation of mainline water main to Busse Road. They also completed the pressure testing and chlorination on the east leg water main. Next week, water services east of Nicholas Boulevard will be connected to the new main.

November 3, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction continued installing water main on the north side of Lunt Avenue, west of Nicholas Boulevard. They also installed fire hydrants west of Nicholas. Central Boring bored casing pipe and water main underneath the Willow Creek culvert. Next week, the contractor will make the connection to existing water main at Busse Road. Upon the water main passing pressure testing and chlorination, services will begin to be transferred to the new main.

October 27, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction continued installing water main on the north side of Lunt Avenue, west of Nicholas Boulevard. They also installed fire hydrants east of Nicholas Boulevard. Additionally, Central Boring bored casing pipe and water main underneath the train tracks near Elmhurst Road. Next week, the contractor will continue water main installation towards Busse Road. Upon completion of the fire hydrant installation, the section of water main east of Nicholas Boulevard will also be pressure tested and chlorinated.

October 20, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction installed water main on the north side of Lunt Avenue from the tracks west of Elmhurst Road through the Nicholas Boulevard intersection. Next week, the contractor will dig pits adjacent to the tracks and culvert in order to bore casing pipe and water main underneath. Water main installation will also continue towards Busse Road.

October 13, 2023: This week, Swallow Construction made the connection to the existing water main at Elmhurst Road. They installed the new water main on the south side of the road up to the railroad tracks, then continued with new water main installation on the north side of Lunt west of the tracks. Next week, the contractor will continue to install new water main working their way west.

September 29, 2023: Swallow Construction began work this week on removal items for the water main replacement project on Lunt Avenue between Busse Road and Elmhurst Road. The project’s objective is to replace the aging water main. The project will include the upgrading water main, water valves, fire hydrants, and service valves. Next week, the road will be milled to create the water main trench. Preparation for boring of the pipe underneath the train tracks will begin as well.
