Project Description

Anticipated for 2025, this project will be taking place on Tonne Road between Landmeier Road and Devon Avenue.  The scope of work involves reconstruction of Tonne Road, intersection improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.  Prior to this construction, the water main will be replaced in 2024.

Project Updates

November 1, 2024: This week, the asphalt subcontractor completed patching, milling, and resurfacing northbound Tonne Road and the side streets. Next week, landscaping restoration will begin on the project.

October 25, 2024: This week, all concrete was placed and the asphalt subcontractor patched the trench along northbound Tonne Road and the side streets. Next week, the asphalt subcontractor will resurface the outside lane of northbound Tonne Road, south of the construction limits to next year’s reconstruction project.

October 18, 2024: This week, Acqua completed transferring the services on northbound Tonne Road to the new water main. The concrete subcontractor also poured the curb, sidewalk, and aprons. Next week, the asphalt subcontractor patch the roadway with asphalt and resurface south of Greenleaf Avenue.

October 11, 2024: This week, Acqua pressure tested and chlorinated the new water main between Laurel Street and Fargo Avenue. They also connected the water main at Elk Grove Boulevard to the new main. Next week, the contractor will continue with transferring the services to the new main for businesses north of Chase Avenue.

October 4, 2024: This week, Acqua pressure tested and chlorinated the new water main between Laurel Street and Touhy Avenue. They also connected the water main at Touhy Avenue to the new main and began disassembling the old fire hydrants. Next week, the contractor will continue with transferring the services to the new main for businesses north of Touhy Avenue.

September 27, 2024: This week, Acqua continued tying in businesses on to the new water main south of Touhy Avenue.  They also made the side street connections at Greenleaf and Morse. Next week, the water main will be transferred over at Touhy and Elk Grove Boulevard. Also, pending the pressure test and chlorination, businesses north of Touhy Avenue will be transferred onto the new main.

September 20, 2024: This week, Acqua continued to tie in the businesses on to the new water main along northbound Tonne Road. They also began tying in the new water main to the adjacent side streets including Clearmont, Walnut, Pratt, and Morse.  Next week, the contractor will continue transferring the businesses south of Touhy on to the new main.

September 13, 2024: This week, Acqua completed the pressure test and chlorination of the water main on northbound Tonne Road, south of Touhy Avenue. They also began to tie in the businesses on to the new water main.  Next week, the contractor will continue transferring the businesses south of Touhy on to the new main.

August 30, 2024: This week, Acqua completed installing main line water main on northbound Tonne Road towards Fargo Avenue. The concrete subcontractor also placed the remaining sidewalk and driveway aprons on southbound Tonne Road.  Next week, the contractor will continue installation of fire hydrants on northbound Tonne Road.

August 23, 2024: This week, Acqua installed main line water main on northbound Tonne Road towards Fargo Avenue. The roadway subcontractor also patched the water main trench on southbound Tonne Road.  Next week, the contractor will continue installation of fire hydrants on northbound Tonne Road.

August 16, 2024: This week, Acqua installed water main across the Clearmont Drive crossing. They also continued installing main line water main on northbound Tonne Road.  Next week, the contractor will continue installation of water main on northbound Tonne Road, as well as pressure testing and chlorinating the newly installed water main on the south half of northbound Tonne Road.

August 9, 2024: This week, Acqua installed fire hydrants along northbound Tonne Road and continued installing main line water main north of Touhy Avenue.  Concrete restoration of sidewalk, curbs and aprons also began on the southbound side.  Next week, the contractor will continue installation of water main on northbound Tonne Road, as well as pressure testing and chlorinating the newly installed water main on the south half of northbound Tonne Road.

August 2, 2024: This week, Acqua installed fire hydrants on the northbound Tonne Road. Next week, they will perform the concrete restoration work on southbound Tonne Road and continue with installation of water main on northbound Tonne Road.

July 26, 2024: This week, Acqua transferred the water services for the residents on southbound Tonne Road to the new water main. Next week, they will begin installing fire hydrants on the northbound Tonne Road.

July 19, 2024: This week, Acqua continued installing water main south down the northbound side of Tonne Road to the project limits at Walnut Lane. They also began installing the water main up to the connection points on the side streets. Next week, they will begin installing fire hydrants and may begin tying in the residential services to the new main. 

July 12, 2024: This week, Acqua continued installing water main south down the northbound side of Tonne Road between Lunt Avenue and Pratt Boulevard. Next week, they will continue working their way south towards Walnut Lane with new water main and begin installing fire hydrants. 

June 28, 2024: Acqua, the Village's contractor on this project, continued installing water main going south along the northbound side of Tonne Road this week. They also patched the intersection of Elk Grove Boulevard/Touhy Avenue and Tonne Road. Next week, they will continue installing new water main, working their way south towards Walnut Lane.

June 21, 2024: This week, Acqua installed casing pipe and water main through the median at the Elk Grove Boulevard intersection. They pressure tested and chlorinated the new main. Next week, the residents along Tonne Road will be connected to the new main and the contractor will begin installing the water main on the northbound side of Tonne Road. northbound Tonne Road will be closed to through traffic as water main is installed on northbound Tonne Road. Traffic will be detoured to Lively Boulevard to avoid the construction zone before being able to re-connect to Tonne Road, north of the construction zone. 

June 14, 2024: This week, Acqua completed installing the new water main on southbound Tonne Road, up to the Elk Grove Boulevard intersection. They also installed fire hydrants and pressure tested and chlorinated the new main. Next week, the contractor will install the casing pipe and water main along the Elk Grove Boulevard and Tonne Road median. Once chlorination results pass, the residents along Tonne Road will be connected to the new main. 

June 7, 2024: This week, Acqua began installation of the new water main by connecting to the existing water main on southbound Tonne Road, just south of Fargo Avenue. They continued installing the new water main in the outside lane of southbound Tonne Road. Next week, water main installation will continue heading south towards Elk Grove Boulevard.

May 31, 2024: This week, Acqua began the water main project by mobilizing equipment and material. Next week, work will continue with the implementation of the detour for southbound Tonne between Fargo and Elk Grove Boulevard. The contractor will mill the pavement above the water main trench in the outside lane. Water main pipe installation will begin just south of Fargo and continue southbound. 

May 24, 2024: Next week, work will begin to replace the Village’s aging water main along Tonne Road prior to the planned roadway reconstruction next year. Water main on southbound Tonne Road will be replaced from Fargo Avenue to Elk Grove Boulevard and on northbound Tonne, from Walnut Lane to Fargo Avenue. During construction operations Tonne Road will be closed to through traffic and a temporary detour will be posted directing through traffic to Lively Boulevard. Local traffic will still be able to access locations along Tonne Road, but delays are to be expected. This project is anticipated to be completed in October of this year.
