The Village does not endorse or support any company or product being solicited. If you have questions, concerns or complaints regarding the business practices of a soliciting business, please contact the Better Business Bureau at 312-832-0500 or the Consumer Protection Division in the Attorney General’s office at 1-800-386-5438.
All persons seeking to solicit within the Village, other than religious or political organizations protected under the First Amendment, must apply for a local Solicitor Permit. This does not apply to people that are exclusively distributing flyers or door hangers.
Village ordinance requires solicitors to apply with the Village Clerk’s Office prior to doing any door-to-door business in the Village. The Village reviews the application and conducts a background investigation on each individual. Upon approval, the applicant must return to the Village Clerk’s Office to obtain a Solicitor Photo ID Card. The Photo ID must be visible at all times while soliciting in the Village and photos will be displayed at the top of this page under "Approved Solicitors".
SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS WHO CANNOT PROVIDE PROOF OF SOLICITOR IDENTIFICATION FROM THE VILLAGE SHOULD BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO THE POLICE BY CALLING 9-1-1.
It is unlawful for any person, whether registered with the Village or not, to engage in “soliciting” before 9:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, or any time on a Sunday or State/National holiday.
Residents may display a “NO SOLICITORS INVITED” sign upon or near the main entrance door of their residence as notice that the occupant does not wish to interact with the solicitor. “NO SOLICITORS INVITED” decals are available at the Village Clerk’s Office. Residents may contact the Village Clerk at 847-357-4040 for additional information.
