Neighborhood Watch is an effective crime prevention program that involves the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their communities. This program when used properly can reduce residential burglary and other crimes because a good neighbor is one of the most effective crime prevention tools ever invented.

Why Neighborhood Watch?

A Neighborhood Watch is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together.  Neighborhood Watch empowers citizens and increases communication and collaboration with the Police Department and the community. You and your neighbors are the ones who really know what is going on in your community.  So, the program adds your eyes and ears to the streets in order to assist law enforcement in crime prevention efforts and aid in solving crimes already committed. Ultimately, there cannot be a law enforcement officer on every corner in Elk Grove Village, so citizen involvement is essential to combat crime.

What does an involved participant do?

  • Look for and report suspicious or not normal behavior or activities
  • Attend 3 to 4 meetings a year with guest speakers and training
  • Network to meet your neighbors and talk to officers
  • Receive information on crime prevention tips and trends

Goals of the Neighborhood Watch Program

  • Informing citizens how to recognize and report suspicious activities accurately
  • Creating communication links between the community and the police Department
  • Working together to maintain a system of surveillance over one another's property, children, etc.
  • Developing collaboration between the Elk Grove Village Police Department and residents
  • Making Elk Grove Village an even safer place to live
